Puffin Facts

There are only about 3-4 million puffins left in the world. That may sound like a lot but it isn’t.

The puffin beak changes color in spring, from gray to orange.

Some of the nicknames the puffins have are "the clown of the sea" and "sea parrots."

They live for about 20 years.

How They Are Going Extinct

The puffins' population has dropped about two million in the past four years. It is caused by climate change. They are also dying because humans are hunting them. Puffins are very sensitive to cold and a lot of them die from it.

Puffins' Eating Habits

The puffin diet contains sand eel, herring, hake, and capelin.
